The Many Colors of Shinjuku Gyoen

One of my favorite places in Tokyo is Shinjuku Gyoen. It’s a quiet oasis in a busy area and a nice escape from city living. I especially like going in fall to see the colored leaves and enjoy the crisp autumn air.

Last year I visited several times with a friend. It quickly became our tradition to buy a Japanese lunch box from Isetan and have a small picnic in the park. After leisurely eating and chatting, we would explore the park and take a lot of pictures along the way. The park is 144 acres and has three different styles of garden (French Formal, English Landscape, and Japanese Traditional), so there’s plenty to see.

Here are a few of the pictures I took last year. I look forward to seeing the autumn leaves again this year. I’m sure I’ll be adding more pictures to my collection.
