今週は通訳部からお送りします。

最近は気軽にお出かけができなくなってしまいましたが、おうち時間はどのように過ごされていますでしょうか？
僕はこのステイホーム期間、大好きなビートルズの造詣を深めるべく、「ビートルズ全曲歌詞集」を買いました。

デビューアルバム「Please Please Me」から、ジョン・レノンの没後に発表された「Anthology」まで、ビートルズ全楽曲の歌詞を、当時の貴重な写真と共に楽しめる全集となっています。

曲作りの様子や、日々の彼らの苦悩なども伺い知ることができる、貴重な一冊です。

そんな数ある作品の中で、僕が一番思い入れのある曲は「LET IT BE」です。
讃美歌のような響きで、ある種宗教的な印象を受ける曲ですが、包み込むような優しいメロディーと歌詞は、不思議と前を向く力を与えてくれます。
未曾有の事態が降りかかり、何を信じたらいいのかわからない今だからこそ、悩める私たちをこの曲は救ってくれるような気がします。

せっかくなので、自分なりに、感じたままに歌詞を和訳してみました。

50年近く経った今でも、私たちの心を震わせる楽曲を生み出したビートルズは、本当に唯一無二のアーティストなのだと改めて実感します。
まさに今、「Hour of darkness」の中をみんなが彷徨っている時代なのではないでしょうか。
いつかまた、元の日常を取り戻せる日がくるといいですね。
